The Artist Incubator
Not your ordinary artist studio.
As part of our mandate of nurturing creativity through the arts, Glenhyrst has created an annual eight month Artist Incubator program with limited enrolment. Housed in The Cottage on the grounds of the gallery, the incubator offers both a self-led, working studio space and a curated professional development program for artists at all levels. The program will nurture artist development through direct mentorship with other established and professional artists in a series of five modules as well as through direct collaboration between the artists in the co-working space. Participant’s will also connect with Glenhyrst’s Curator and staff throughout the program for specialized individual mentorship. Four artist will be selected for the program each year and each artist will receive the following:
• Daily access to a semi-private studio space located within The Cottage from October 1st to May 31st
• Shared kitchen and bathroom facilities for daytime use
• 24/7 security
• Mentorship and workshops with professional artists
• Final group exhibition at The Cottage

The Program
These modules will be delivered by experts in the field.
Please note the following modules are subject to change, based on the individual needs and goals of the artists chosen for the program.
Module 1: Getting In
We’ll break down the process for getting your work exhibited in galleries.
Module 2: Storytelling
You can tell your story, or a story will be told for you. Let’s explore the deeper meaning behind your art. The viewer wants to know.
Module 3: Marketing
Marketing yourself to the world is a multi-faceted adventure. Let’s talk about the mediums and avenues to get your name and artwork out there.
Module 4: Preparing
Preparing for an exhibition or juried show. Let’s talk about how to properly frame, label, package, price, photograph and transport your works for exhibition.
Individual Mentorship
Artists will connect with Glenhyrst’s Curator & Head of Collections and Gallery Director three times (beginning, middle and end).
A Guidebook, to include:
Grant writing opportunities and resources within Ontario & Canada for artists (OAC, CC, TAC, etc.)
How to prepare a sample resume and CV that artists can create for future use.
What to submit with a formal exhibition proposal.
A comprehensive list of juried exhibitions, art competitions, art markets, art fairs, and similar events in Southwestern Ontario that artists can apply for.
$250 per month, for an eight month contract period
Program includes all of the above.
We also ask that artist periodically (4 hours per month) assist with:

Be a guest artist for children’s classes
