Gloria Deitcher

Gloria Deitcher was born in Montreal, Canada where she studied printmaking and painting. She received a Canada Council Arts Grant and exhibited her prints extensively across Canada and in Europe. Ms. Deitcher then moved to New York City and received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Rutgers University where she studied with Leon Golub.

This led to an interest in video-performance art. As Artist-in-Residence at the university of Bridgeport in 1980, Ms. Deitcher made video art tapes for cable television. That same year, she taught a video art course at the University of Vermont. As founder and curator of D-Visions Gallery in New York City, Ms. Deitcher held an international video festival where she promoted other video artists. She also curated the JVC Tokyo Video Festival for two consecutive years and served on the board of directors of Media Alliance for two years.

Ms. Deitcher received a New York State Council of the Arts Grant to show her art work in the “Video Around Town” exhibition series which she curated. Ms. Deitcher has also exhibited her prints internationally at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal. Her other art exhibitions in New York City have been at Global Village, The Kitchen, Anthology Film Archives, Astoria Motion Picture Museum, and Just Above Midtown/ Downtown Gallery. She has also exhibited works at the Princeton University Art Museum as well as on cable television in the metropolitan New York area.

In recent years, Ms. Deitcher has taught art to NYC school children in Alphabet City, Red Hook, Brooklyn, and the Lower East Side. Ms. Deitcher currently resides in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
