David Rifat
David Rifat is a visual artist born in the UK in 1934. Rifat attended the Edinburgh College of Art in the 1950s where he was awarded the Andrew Grant Graduate Scholarship (1957) and the Andrew Carnegie Post-graduate Travelling Scholarship (1959). During the 1960s, he devoted himself to art, teaching, and administration at the Middlesborough College of Art. He was soon made Head of Department at Carlisle College of Art, from which I was recruited to UCSD at Muir College in La Jolla, California. After being offered a commission in the US Army, Rifat moved to Toronto in 1969 and taught at the University of Toronto Department of Fine Art and Archeology where he would stay until retirement in 2002. Rifat currently lives in Victoria, B.C.
