Bonnie Sheckter

Bonnie Sheckter received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1973, and her Master of Visual Arts in Printmaking in 1976 from the the University of Alberta.  She went on to teach at the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta for several years, and then became the Director of Lithography at Open Studio in 1982 after moving to Toronto.  During this time she exhibited widely in various juried and invitational shows, nationally and internationally, and received a number of awards for her work.

In 2000, Bonnie began exploring the medium of coloured pencil.  She became enthralled with this medium, for its wonderful capabilities in capturing subtle nuances, luminous build-up of colour,  and its liberating sense of spontaneity.  She found it lent itself wonderfully to the art of portraiture, which she discovered held a whole new world of fascination for her.  Since then, Bonnie has dedicated herself almost wholly to this medium.

Bonnie lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with her husband, musician Russell Hartenberger.
