Robert Young
Robert Young was born in Vancouver in 1938. In 1962 he graduated from the University of British Columbia. He earned a Certificate of Merit from The City and Guilds of London School of Art in 1964 and in 1966 graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Graphics from The Vancouver School of Art.
Young came into prominence in England in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His main concerns were drawing and print-making until 1967 when painting became his primary focus. He variously taught and exhibited in London from 1966 to 1976 which resulted in a series of one man shows at the Redfern Gallery. In 1974 The Vancouver Art Gallery mounted a Robert Young retrospective and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria featured an exhibition of his prints in 1980. He was an Associate-Professor in the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of British Columbia, from 1992 to 1998.
Robert Young’s work is represented in the collections of the Tate Gallery, the National Gallery of Canada, Ontario and at municipal galleries in Winnipeg, Greater Victoria and Vancouver and numerous other collections.
