Barbara Zeigler-Sunger

Barbara Zeigler’s artistic practice is structured around an extended inquiry into ever-shifting relations between ecosystems and human, cultural structures. Working in printmaking, photography, drawing, installation, and collaborative public art projects, her artwork seeks to prompt questions as to the character and consequences of our existing cultural paradigms. Such paradigms, with current environmentalist discourse as no exception, afford particular bodies and environments priority over others.

Ziegler's artworks draw on a larger practice of collecting images and information from urban and non-urban sites, including waste disposal sites, old-growth forest sites, remote fish farms and other locations accessible only by boat, along the coast of British Columbia. Collaboration with scientists, other artists and the public at large has been integral to her practice since the early 90s.
